Cost-Effective Server System leverages IP Architecture to send and receive visual communication content among multiple clients' PCs and Set-Top Boxes.
The move to digital file sharing systems across the corporate, educational, institutional and retail landscape has led to significant sales for the Grass Valley™ MediaEdge video delivery system.
The ubiquitous need to distribute and share audio and video content across TCP/IP-based local area networks (LANs) has exploded in the past few years, as various types of video retrieval and display applications are deployed to support and expand business models and achieve internal goals. This demand has led to a variety of innovative new uses for the Grass Valley MediaEdge2 server system, which leverages an affordable internet protocol (IP) architecture to send and receive broadcast quality video in a highly reliable way.
"More and more customers from all disciplines have recognized the value that video can bring to their organizations, and are turning to the Grass Valley MediaEdge delivery system for support," said Marc Valentin, president of the Grass Valley business within Thomson. "We're glad to see the technology embraced so well and by so many different market segments. It's clear that distributing video with the MediaEdge system is making a significant difference in how companies, universities, and other organizations operate and grow their platforms to fit specific needs."
MediaEdge is a cost-effective LAN-based system which allows users to send audio and video content to multiple PC and set-top box clients. Among those implementing a MediaEdge system recently, are a growing number of schools and universities, sports venues, administrative offices, and even a state prison.
The John A Burns School of Medicine at the University of Hawaii (Honolulu) worked with system integrator The Audio Visual Company to connect 13 exam rooms to a MediaEdge system for recording, and another 13 desktop clients for review in faculty offices and conference rooms.
Slightly different multichannel MediaEdge systems have been installed at the University of Akron, Vanderbilt University, and University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Each is a unique integration of MediaEdge and other components customized by the integrator to match very specific requirements. SoundCom in Cleveland integrated the University of Akron while Technical Innovations in Norcross, Ga., installed Grass Valley Media Edge systems at Vanderbilt and University of Alabama.
SoundCom has also integrated MediaEdge systems at major law offices to help with video-on-demand training and to capture depositions and other meetings.
At North Carolina State University, Snader and Associates installed two MediaEdge systems to handle video on demand in various classrooms. The university is also using MediaEdge to drive their community access cable head-end. MediaEdge is in use at cable headends in Nevada, Alaska, and Georgia.
